Exploring Éire (Ireland) - Part 1

14 - 16 October

I arrived in Dublin late after a Ryanair flight from Brussels - which actually arrived early - and crashed at the hostel before spending the following day looking around the city.

It was quite a change from mainland Europe and immediately felt similar to what I'd have expected in the UK. Successfully dodging the left-hand side driving, I headed along the River Liffey, which was a picturesque spot in the early morning glare.

I didn't really have much planned for my one day in Dublin - I was generally passing through - but amused myself by just wandering around the Grand Dock, through a couple of inner-city parks and taking a look around Trinity College, Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral.

Of course one compulsory visit was to the famed Guinness Storehouse & Brewery... How could one visit Dublin and not look deeper into the secrets of this famous stout?

The next day dawned in typical Irish autumn fashion - with rain. After helping a poor lady who slipped and broke her ankle right in front of me at the bus stop, and several hours in the bus, I arrived in Galway on the country's western coast. I took the opportunity in the afternoon to explore the town a bit - it wasn't that large - and booked myself onto a trip out to the island of Inis Mór for the next morning.
